Singer-songwriter Ryan Beatty performed his third studio album, “Calico,” at the Gothic Theatre on Thursday, March 7. Ryan has been writing songs and performing for well over a decade. Recently, he performed with Miley Cyrus, duetting one of her unreleased songs in December of last year.

Starting right on time, the crowd applauded as Beatty took to the stage alongside a band of five.

“Calico” was released in 2023 and received numerous accolades, being titled one of the best albums of the year.

It had been four years since Beatty had a live performance of his own, but this tour has given him the chance to show off his angelic sounds and emotional lyrics to a crowd that has loved him since the “Hey LA” days.

Beatty started off the show singing “Ribbons.” The band complemented his soft falsetto as the crowd sang along. From the very start of the show, the emotions in the theater started to come through.

He kept his eyes closed for the majority of the show, but his emotional connection with his music and his fans were present.

Andromeda” provided an escalating sound paired perfectly with an increase in tempo, leaving the audience in awe through smooth runs and riffs.

In “Bruises off the Peach,” a crowd favorite, the acoustics in the room carried his soft vocals over the audience singing along.

Beatty clearly has a strong and connected relationship with his sound, his band and his lyrics. It was almost as if he was being fueled by the magic created through the sounds of his band. The set was almost continuous, with hardly anything but a soft “thank you” in between numbers. He wasn’t performing for his audience, he was performing for himself, but everyone benefited by witnessing his process and the impressive sounds that come from it.

“This is the first time I’ve looked up all night,” Beatty said to the crowd.

Beatty ended the night by thanking the Denver crowd, noting that there isn’t a feeling to describe what it feels like performing on his tour. He went on to play one last song, “White Teeth,” asking those who knew it to sing along. For the first time all night, he stood up from his stool to engage with the audience, putting his hand on his heart and belting along with the crowd.

Beatty’s delicate and intimate voice brought tears to the eyes of many. The layout of The Gothic Theater gave people enough room to sway and softly dance to Beatty’s angelic sound, while embracing one another in the emotional state the beautiful music created.
